FIT Women: Panthers Visit Bearcats in Second Leg of Road Trip

(Women’s Lacrosse) – After dropping its first road game of the season, Florida Tech (8-3) can quickly right the ship when it visits the Prairie State for  its matchup with McKendree on Monday at 5 p.m. ET. The Panthers competed all 60 minutes on Saturday but were unable to match the fire power of 3rd-ranked Lindenwood. The Crimson and Gray trailed by five just 10 minutes into the game, and 10-4 at halftime, before eventually falling to the undefeated Lions 17-8 in St. Charles, Missouri. Mary Gormley guided Florida Tech with three goals and an assist to go along with a team-high three draw controls. Sara Grenierand Allie Modica each scored twice in the game and Caroline Dunleavy added one goal. Haley Heggblod led the Panther defense with three caused turnovers and a team-high four ground balls. The Panthers turned the ball over 24 times against the Lions and were outshot 31-22 in the contest. Further hurting their chances in the game was a 2-for-8 performance on free position attempts, including 1-of-6 in the second half alone. On Monday, FIT has the opportunity to rebound against a McKendree (3-4) team that has lost three of its last four outings and is coming off a 23-11 road loss to No. 8 Grand Valle State on Friday. Paige Salthouse paced MU with six points on five goals and an assist and Bree Suter added a hat trick. Mia Fiore recorded one goal and five draw controls while Hannah Sugarman contributed a goal and five ground balls. Salthouse is the Bearcats’ top points-getter with 27 on 21 goals and six assists while Dana DiPasquale is second on the team with 21 points on a team-high 13 assists. Sugarman and Suter are second in scoring with 12 goals apiece. Shirley Boland leads MU in ground balls (21), draw controls (18) and caused turnovers (12), in addition to tallying three goals and two assists. Bearcats’ goalkeeper Amy Porta (3-4) has started all seven games between the pipes, making 94 saves and allowing 13.57 goals per game.
