By Mike Zima, Correspondent   Freshman Ann Marie Hawley scored six goals to lead host Fleming Island to an easy 14-5 victory over Jacksonville Episcopal Friday night. Hawley dominated the opening minutes of the game, scoring three goals and winning five of seven faceoffs as Fleming Island jumped out to a 5-1 lead that was never seriously threatened. On one occasion, the 5’8” Hawley jumped to corral the faceoff in her stick, cradled, and then rumbled to within five feet of the goal before flipping a shot over the shoulder of the Episcopal goaltender. Hawley was especially effective placing shots in the upper corners of the net. “Even as a freshman, Ann Marie is a player that the other girls look to for scoring and leadership,” said Golden Eagles coach Brittany Suszan. “She is very smart, and very controlled.”   Fleming Episcopal 2016 #3 Fleming Episcopal 2016 #2             Lori Beaird’s hat trick kept the Eagles from focusing their defense solely on Hawley, while Madisen Adams chipped in with two goals for the Golden Eagles. Junior middie Kierra Marquis fueled Fleming Island’s attack by scooping up a game-high nine ground balls, consistently outrunning Eagles to the ball or darting through traffic to gain possession. “She has perfect ground ball form, always running through the ball,” Suszan said of Marquis. “Her being so aggressive on 50/50 ground balls was very important.” Episcopal, which falls to 3-3, was led by attack Caroline Taylor’s two goals. Amanda McCawley, Stela Chepenik and Kaitlyn Nott also found the net. Fleming Island improved to 4-1 and travels to Creekside Tuesday, March 1 for a district game at Creekside.
