Fleming Island Beats Creekside By One at Moe’s Southwest Grill Classic

Fleming Island outlasted Creekside in a back and forth game that came down to the wire on the Monday after the Moe’s Lacrosse Classic. FIHS held as much as a 4 goal lead before CHS came storming back to take the lead 13-12. With time running down senior middie, Dakota Shields, broke open and netted his first goal of the season to tie the contest at 13.

With less than two minutes left in the game, the FIHS defense cleared the ball to junior attackman, Hayden La Vangie, who quickly carried the ball to the CHS defensive end and netted the final score of the game to give FIHS a 14-13 victory. Devan Marquis and Hayden La Vangie lead all scorers with 3 goals and 3 assists and 4 goals and 2 assists, respectively. Sam Barrington and Danny Schreiber netted 2 goals each. Conner Dee and Will Yarbrough added one tally each. Ryan Kelly recorded a 52% save mark, and the defensive unit lead by Jake Funyak, Jake Williams, Josh Calloway, Chase Wilson, and Jaren Szafranski held tough in the end to help FIHS secure its first win over Creekside. Creekside was led in scoring by Julian Bonilla with 4 goals and 1 assist.  Gabe Torres added 3 goals and 2 assists while Matt Tidball scored four goals.
