Danny scored four-goals, none more skillful than a quick-stick putback of a high rebound in the first quarter. Patrick’s night was highlighted by a short-range laser from Menendez goalie Zack Strickland’s right after the 5’4” freshman had curled around the crease and launched a shot as he was knocked to the ground by a Falcons defender.
“Both are getting very comfortable in their roles,” commented Fleming Island coach Jeff La Vangie. “Danny is seeing the field better and also making good choices. Patrick is taking charge when the ball heads to x and setting a good pace for the offense.”

The Golden Eagles took control at the outset. Middie Hayden La Vangie, scooped up the opening faceoff, raced down the middle of the field, slipped between two defenders and bounced a shot between Strickland’s feet just fifteen seconds into the contest. La Vangie finished with a hat trick, lifting him over the 200 point mark in just 48 varsity games. Nine different Golden Eagles had a goal or an assist as the hosts jumped out to an 11-0 lead at the half.
Led by senior Jaren Szrafranski, the Fleming Island defense was stout. Szafranski snared four ground balls, had two steals and made the night’s prettiest assist when he threaded a long-range pass between two Falcons defenders to a streaking La Vangie. Starting goalie Ryan Kelly was forced to make only one save in the first two quarters, and Menendez did not register a shot in the second half until Logan Miller whipped a ball past Golden Eagles goalie Jason Kunath from twelve yards out for the Falcons’ first score.
Alex Ruiz scored the other Menendez goal from the left wing, hitting the inside of the post to Kunath’s left. The Falcons fall to 2-2.
Fleming Island ran its record to 5-0, and will host Gainesville Buchholz on Tuesday, February 25.
