Saturday was Beautiful weather to play lacrosse at Jesuit’s Tiger Stadium. The district game between Steinbrenner and Tampa Jesuit did not disappoint either.
Both teams went back and forth the first quarter. Great goals by Landon Howard of Steinbrenner put them in control early in the first. However, Stephano Mastro of Tampa Jesuit would answer back with a goal of his own to keep the scoring close. Both teams ended the First quarter 3-3.
The second quarter started and so did the offense for Steinbrenner. Scoring 5 goals in the quarter and keeping Jesuit to 3. At half-time it was Steinbrenner leading Tampa Jesuit 8 – 6.
Steinbrenner came out like they did in the first half and seemed to be in control of the game going up 12-8. Tampa Jesuit scored a late goal in the closing minute of the 3rd and moved the score to 12-9 entering into the 4th quarter.
Tampa Jesuit came out focused and fought back to tie the game up 12 – 12 with 2 minutes left in the game. Both teams had chances to get a last shot off, but both defenses held up.
As overtime began, Jesuit put the ball in the best players hands: Stephano Mastro.
Coach John Kuebrich for Steinbrenner says of Mastro “He is ice-cold in situations like these. If you fall asleep or even lose focus for a second, hes going to make you pay.”
Make Steinbrenner pay he did. Mastro scored the game winning goal with 2:00 left in overtime and won the game for Tampa Jesuit.
Carson Kaleo of Steinbrenner lead the warriors in points for the game with 2 goals and 3 assists.
Not to be out done, Stephano Mastro also had 5points (2goals, 3assists)
Tampa Jesuit (3-1) will play another district game 2/25 Vs Robinson (2-2)
While Steinbrenner (2-1) hopes to bounce back playing out of district game Vs Freedom-Tampa (1-3) on 2/23
