Florida opens Brine NLC with 8-5 loss to Rochester

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
The Brine National Lacrosse Classic opened under sunny skies and warm temperatures on Monday afternoon.  The very first game of the tournament saw Florida take on defending champion Rochester.  Florida played a tough game, but Rochester prevailed in the end 8-5.
Florida shocked the defending champs on the opening faceoff, as LSM Ahmed Hallstern (Tampa commit) came up with the ball and took it straight to the goal, giving Florida the lead less than 30 seconds in the the games.  The teams settled down and traded goals for the remainder of the half, which saw Rochester taking a 5-4 lead into the break.  Rochester proved too much for Florida in the 2nd half, as they wore down the Florida defense to preserve the victory.
Finding the back of the net for Florida were Hallstern, Adrian Franzone, Ryan Omerod, Michael Urso, and Logan Smith.  Jonathan Thelan added two assists.  Florida will next face Michigan in Pool A play later in the day.
