From Press Release; LAKELAND – Florida Southern women’s lacrosse head coach Kara Reber has announced her team’s 20-game schedule for the upcoming 2015 season. Three of the Moccasins’ 2015 opponents made the eight-team NCAA Division II Championship Tournament a year ago: Adelphi – the eventual Division II National Champions – Limestone and Lindenwood (Mo.). The Mocs play their first 10 games at Bryant Stadium in Lakeland and have 13 overall home games. They open the school’s fourth season of women’s lacrosse with their first-ever matchup against Grand Valley State on Friday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. On Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m., they play against Adelphi, winners of four of the last six Division II National Championships. Last season, the Panthers were a perfect 22-0. On Sunday, March 1 at 1 p.m., the Golden Knights of Gannon University will seek warmer weather when they trek south from Pennsylvania. FSC hosts consecutive doubleheaders in the first week of March. On Tuesday, March 3, Regis (Colo.) will visit Lakeland at 11 a.m. for the day-cap of the first twin bill, followed by a 7 p.m. contest against Wilmington (Del.). On Saturday, March 7, Mount Olive will tangle with the Mocs in another 11 a.m. contest, and the span of four games in five days concludes against Wheeling Jesuit at 7 p.m. The 10-game season-opening homestand at Bryant Stadium ends with games against Queens (N.C.) on Tuesday, March 10 at 4 p.m., Seton Hill on Saturday, March 14 at 1 p.m. and Lenoir-Rhyne on Tuesday, March 17 at 7 p.m. Florida Southern’s first away game is on Friday, March 20 in St. Charles, Mo., against Lindenwood. Last season, the then-10th ranked Lions handed the Mocs a 13-9 loss. The weekend road trip continues with the third doubleheader of the season at McKendree University in Lebanon, Ill., on Saturday, March 21. Following a one-hour drive back to St. Charles, the Mocs take on Adams State in a neutral site game at 8 p.m. This season will be the first for the Sunshine State Conference sponsoring women’s lacrosse. Formally a Division II independent, the Moccasins will compete in the five-team league against Florida Tech, Rollins, Saint Leo and Tampa. The conference slate begins at home on Friday, March 27 at 7 p.m. against the Tars. Erskine College, located in Due West, S.C., plays host to FSC on Friday, April 3 at 1 p.m. In their next game on Saturday, April 4 at 11 a.m., the Mocs visit Limestone, which suffered its only loss of 2014 to Lindenwood in the opening round of the NCAA Division II tournament. Last season, then-No. 3 Saints edged the Mocs in Lakeland by a single goal, 14-13. The Mocs resume league play against Saint Leo on Tuesday, April 7 at 7 p.m. They end the regular season on the road in Tampa on Wednesday, April 15 at 7:30 p.m. and at Florida Tech on Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m. Sandwiched between is the final home game, a non-conference tilt against Shorter on Saturday, April 11 at 1 p.m. The inaugural SSC Tournament will begin with the semifinal round on Friday, April 24, and concludes with the crowning of the first conference champion on Sunday, April 26. The 2015 NCAA Division II Championship Game will be held in Salem, Va. on Sunday, May 17. Reber, a three-time All-Independent Coach of the Year selection, has coached the Mocs to a Top-10 finish in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Coaches Poll in each of the last two seasons. In 2014, Florida Southern was ranked as high as fifth in the nation. The Mocs will look to carry that success into 2015 with the return of senior All-American midfielders Megan Asper and Lorianne Hoover, senior All-American attackman Caitlin Chase and junior All-American defender Gabby Barowski.
