Prep School Lacrosse Showcase had a very successful first Florida camp for girls last weekend at St. Andrew’s School in Boca Raton.  While not at all a recruiting event, the participants, from players to college coaches to parents, gushed about how terrific the event was.  As many of you know, the road to a college offer can be a long one with  substantial pressure.  This camp was, in many ways, like a group of professional golfers getting together to play golf on their own, away from the spotlight.  They love what they do and build relationships along the way – and they might pick up a tip or two.

Our Floridians had the opportunity to play with and against great players from all over the northern part of the country who seemed to be happy just to be here this time of year.  The camp is targeted to individuals who want to learn more about college programs at all levels and in particular some of the better known academic institutions.

The college coaches took turns teaching, refereeing and posing for the required celebrity op while getting to know so many talented high school players on an informal basis.  This was relationship building at its very best. FLN continues to be impressed with the product produced by Prep School Lacrosse Showcase.  The camps we have witnessed in Boca Raton are well organized and the pinnyies worn by the players are simple to read with numbers on both the front and back.   One college coach mentioned to this writer some years ago how much easier it is to identify players if numbers are on both the front and he’s absolutely correct. A few spaces opened up at the last minute for the boys’ camp at St. Andrew’s this weekend.  For more information and the online sign-up, visit www.preplaxshowcase.com.  A who’s who of college coaches will be attending.
