Florida Southern’s Fisher Named SSC Defensive Player of the Week

thanks to Travis Larner, Athletic Communications Assistant – Florida Southern College for this press release   MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Southern faceoff specialist Andrew Fisher was named the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week after a record performance for the Moccasins over their last three games.

  Fisher began the week by winning 21 of his 26 faceoff attempts against Lees-McRae on Tuesday, March 10 to lead the Mocs to a new team record for faceoff wins in a game with 27. He also collected a career-high 11 ground balls in the blowout of the Bobcats. In the loss to No. 11 Mercyhurst on Thursday, March 12, Fisher went 18-for-30 in the draw circle and collected 10 ground balls. In Saturday’s win over conference opponent Rollins, the Monkton, Md., native established a single-game program record for faceoff wins. He took all 34 of the team’s draws, earning 22 victories, fifth-most in a game by any Division II player in 2015. He also scooped seven more ground balls. With Fisher taking draws in the last eight games, FSC (3-6, 1-1 SSC) is now second as a team in Division II with 151 faceoff wins. Individually, he ranks second in Division II with 126 wins and is one of only three players with at least 100. On the season, the 5-9 midfielder has gone 126-for-227 from the faceoff circle and leads the Mocs with 45 ground balls. Florida Southern returns home to Bryant Stadium on Saturday, March 21 at 7 p.m. to take on Lynn University in a Sunshine State Conference contest.
