Gillis came up with the best performance of her career in the Moccasins’ 12-11 overtime win over No. 10 Florida Tech last Saturday. She made a career-high 17 saves, including six stops on free-position shots, to help Florida Southern extend its winning streak to 10 games. Her 17 saves are the third-highest single-game total in program history, and the Mocs’ current win streak is the second longest in school history. In addition to her IWLCA National Player of the Week honors, Gillis was also selected as the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Gillis has been named as the SSC Defensive Player of the Week two times this season, and a total of four times in her career. She is the second Moccasin to earn an IWLCA National Player of the Week Award this year, joining teammate Dani Bursinger, who won Division II Offensive Player of the Week honors on March 15. This season, Gillis had posted a record of 5-2 and has made 59 saves, including three games with 10 or more saves. Florida Southern returns to action on Saturday when it heads to Tampa for a 1 p.m. contest with the Spartans, and returns home on April 11 to face No. 5 Rollins in a pivotal conference matchup.
