(Women’s Lacrosse) – Florida Tech’s Allie Modica has been named the Sunshine State Conference Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, announced on Monday by the SSC Office. This is Modica’s second time being selected for the honor. The Vero Beach, Florida product was a key factor in FIT’s matchups with #10 Rollins and Tampa last week.

  In the 18-6 loss to Rollins, FIT’s first-ever SSC contest, Modica secured six ground balls, seven draw controls, one caused turnover and she also scored two goals in the game. In the team’s 20-10 road victory over Tampa on Saturday, Modica recorded three ground balls, five draw controls and two caused turnovers. She also notched two goals against the Spartans. The win against Tampa marked the program’s first conference victory and it clinched the Panthers’ spot in the SSC Tournament on April 24-26. The sophomore has started all 13 games this season and paces the Panthers with 62 points on 46 goals and a team-high 16 assists. Modica also leads the team in both ground balls (43) and draw controls (51). Modica and the Panthers next play at home versus Florida Southern on Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m. at Palm Bay High School’s Pirate Stadium. Saturday is also Senior Day for the women’s lacrosse team. The Panthers will be honoring their senior student-athletes prior to the opening draw.
