thanks to Daniel Supraner, Assistant Director of Athletic Communications – Florida Tech Athletics and Travis Larner, Athletic Communications Assistant – Florida Southern College for their press releases   Daniel Supraner – FIT   Panthers Fall to No. 5 Mocs 19-4 FIT no match for veteran Florida Southern squad   MELBOURNE, Fla. (Women’s Lacrosse) – Florida Tech (7-7, 1-2 SSC) dropped its game versus a more experienced Florida Southern (18-2, 4-0 SSC) squad on Saturday at Palm Bay High School’s Pirate Stadium. The Mocs controlled throughout the contest, overpowering the Panthers toward a 19-4 victory. “You saw us play a very good Florida Southern team today, and we were timid,” said head coach Corinne Desrosiers. “We had a very specific game plan for today, but an aggressive opponent made us second guess ourselves and you saw that in the turnovers and lack of shots. We are young, and I think we forget that from time to time. We were reminded today.” Florida Southern struck first, scoring three quick goals less than four minutes after the opening draw. Freshman Sara Grenier put the Panthers on the board with 16:30 left in the half, but the Mocs answered with a five goal run over the next 11 minutes to push their lead to 7-1. Sophomore Heather Roache scored the final goal of the half on a free possession shot to decrease FIT’s deficit to five heading into halftime. Freshman Caroline Dunleavy opened the scoring in the second half with her only goal off a feed from classmate Mary Gormley. Florida Southern went on to register five more scores over the next five minutes to increase its advantage to 13-3, but freshman Allie Wood ended the run with her free possession goal to make it a nine goal game. The Mocs tallied the final six goals of the game to garner their fourth Sunshine State Conference victory of the season. Freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Stuart recorded 10 saves while playing just the first half of the game. Stuart was replaced by fellow freshman Bridgette Soucy who finished with six saves. “The good that comes from this is motivation for next week’s contest with Saint Leo and for the playoffs,” stated Desrosiers. “Sometimes it takes a loss like today for a team to dig deep and come together to finish the season in a manner that we know we are able to.” Florida Tech travels to Saint Leo, Florida for its regular season finale against Saint Leo at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The winner of the matchup between the Panthers and Lions will claim the No. 3 seed in the SSC Tournament on April 24-26.
