Gators Bruns, Cullen and Dashiell Named to 2012 Tewaaraton Watch List
Gainesville, Fla. – Florida juniors Ashley Bruns (Ellicott City, Md.), Kitty Cullen (Rockville, Md.) and Brittany Dashiell (Bel Air, Md.) were all named to the 2012 Tewaaraton Watch List. The list consists of 53 players, spanning all three NCAA women’s lacrosse divisions, who are under consideration for college lacrosse’s highest individual honor. This marks the first time in school history that more than one Gator is named to the Tewaaraton Watch List. Florida is one of six schools to have three or more players on the watch list, as Maryland leads the nation with four players, and Duke, Loyola, North Carolina and Virginia each have three. Kitty Cullen was Florida’s first-ever nominee last season, when she was the youngest of five finalists. Northwestern’s Shannon Smith won the 11th-annual Tewaaraton Award last season, marking the fifth time in six years a Wildcat took home the award. Florida assistant coach Caitlyn McFadden won the award in 2010 as a senior at the University of Maryland. Through the first three games of the season, Bruns leads the Gators with six assists and is tied for tops on the team with 11 points. The unselfish attacker sits atop the Florida record book with 65 career assists and holds the school single-game record with four, a feat she has accomplished six times in her career including this past Sunday at UMBC. Bruns needs just one goal to become the second Gator to reach the century mark and is tops on the Gators with 164 career points. A 2011 Third-Team All-American selection, Bruns was named First-Team All-ALC and Second-Team IWLCA All-South Region after ranking in the top 20 in the nation in both points (74) and assists (28) last season. Cullen is tied for the team lead with 11 points so far this season, scoring eight goals and three assists. Cullen netted the Gators’ first-ever man-down goal against UMBC on Sunday. A 2011 First-Team All-American, Cullen earned First-Team IWLCA All-South Region and First-Team All-ALC honors, while also winning ALC Player of the Year. The Rockville native finished the 2011 season ranked second in the nation in goals and fifth in points, and brings a 27-game point streak into Friday’s game. Dashiell has opened 2012 on a high note, recording four goals and five assists for nine points over the first three games. The midfielder is tied for the team lead with four caused turnovers, while adding six draw controls and three ground balls. The Bel Air native currently holds a team-leading nine-game goal streak and owns the record for consecutive games with a draw control, registering at least one in 15 straight games in 2010. 2012 Tewaaraton Watch List Lindsay Abbott, Midfield – SUNY Cortland Casey Ancarrow, Attack – James Madison University Kelly Barnes, Defense – Georgetown University Erin Brennan, Attack – University of Pennsylvania Brittany Brigandi, Midfield – Le Moyne College Ashley Bruns, Attack – University of Florida Dana Cahill, Goalie – Penn State University Kara Cannizzaro, Midfield – University of North Carolina Ally Carey, Midfield – Vanderbilt University Kitty Cullen, Attack – University of Florida Taylor D’Amore, Attack – Johns Hopkins University Brittany Dashiell, Midfield – University of Florida Lindsey deButts, Defense – Princeton University Alexa Demski, Defense – Towson University Jasmine DePompeo, Attack – United States Naval Academy Erica Devito, Midfield – Adelphi University Brittany Dipper, Goalie – University of Maryland Danielle Etrasco, Attack – Boston University Charlie Finnigan, Attack – University of Virginia Mary Flowers, Midfield – University of Richmond Julie Gardner, Midfield – University of Virginia Kristen Giovanniello, Goalie – Dartmouth College Emma Hamm, Attack – Duke University Ana Heneberry, Defense – Loyola University Kristin Igoe, Midfield – Boston College Karri Ellen Johnson, Attack – University of Maryland Catherine Kennedy, Attack – Mary Washington Alyssa Kildare, Defense – Johns Hopkins University Emily Leitner, Goalie – University of Pennsylvania Becky Lynch, Attack – University of North Carolina Mollie Mackler, Goalie – Duke University Alayna Markwordt, Attack – Ohio State University Leigh Mitchell, Midfield – The College of New Jersey Josie Owen, Attack – University of Virginia Ariana Parker, Midfield – University at Albany Marlee Paton, Midfield – Loyola University Sarah Plumb, Midfield – Dartmouth College Cassie Pyle, Midfield – Princeton University Iliana Sanza, Defense – University of Maryland Katie Schwarzmann, Midfield – University of Maryland Shannon Smith, Midfield – Northwestern University Jessi Steinberg, Attack – Cormell University Kerry Stoothoff, Goalie – Loyola University Maggie Tamasitis, Attack – University of Notre Dame Danielle Tetreault, Midfield – Harvard University Kat Thomas, Midfield – Duke University Sophia Thomas, Midfield – Georgetown University Taylor Thornton, Defense – Northwestern University Michelle Tumolo, Attack – Syracuse University Jennifer VanderMeulen, Attack – Harvard University Katie Webster, Midfield – Syracuse University Brittany Wilton, Attack – Boston College Laura Zimmerman, Attack – University of North Carolina
