One hundred eighteen teams along with several hundred boys and girls Under Armour Southeast All American hopefuls converged on Kissimmee this past weekend for one of the summer’s early events.
The Under Armour tryouts were held over two days and featured players from Texas to South Florida vying for 25 roster spots on a girls and boys team. The teams will compete in the Under Armour Underclassmen Games at Towson University in Baltimore July 11-13. You can see the final rosters for the South boys and girls teams here. In the Summer Faceoff The second seeded Barracudas defeated the top seeded Swordfish by a score of 10-2 in the Championship game. On their way to the Championship the Barracudas bested the FL Generals 6-1, Revolution Lacrosse ’23 by a score of 7-6 and the FCA S. Florida squad 7-2. Their only blemish in the seeding round came at the hands of the Swordfish who beat them 7-6. The Swordfish were undefeated going into the championship game but everything went the Barracuda’s way in that game as they cruised to a 10-2 Victory. The LB3 Monsters of Sarasota took 3rd in that division
The U11 division was won by Swordfish. Swordfish topped the Revolution ’22 team 11-5 in a battle of South Florida clubs. The U11 division was stacked with 14 teams battling in four separate pools. The Revolution and Swordfish were they ran through the seeding round winning all games by double digits. In the three seeding games the Revolution ’22 team scored 56 goals while only giving up 3. Similarly, the Swordfish amassed 50 goals for and only 4 goals against. The Orlando Swarm and Revolution ’21 were also undefeated in pool play. Revolution ’21 ended up defeating the Swarm 5-3 for third place.
Orlando Swarm beat the Revolution ’19 team 2-0 to take the ten-team U13 B division with Team Maverick taking third. The U13 A group saw the other Revolution ’19 team running over their fellow club members of Revolution ’20 by a score of 12-1 for the Championship. The new Revolution “Super Club” (PB Storm and Blue Devil Elite combined club) certainly looks like they have the numbers and talent to run wild this summer.
Eighteen teams vied for the Championship in the U15B division. It came down to the Stealth LC of South Florida squeaking by the LB3 Monsters in an exciting OT game by a score of 7-6. Stealth LC had defeated Team Panther 6-2 in the semi finals and the LB3 Monsters defeated the Barracudas West 7-2. The Barracudas went on to win third place.
A smaller 15 A division was competitive with three of the five teams finishing the pool play with similar GF-GA ratios. However, Swordfish went through undefeated beating the West Florida LC 11-10 for the Championship. For their part, West Florida only lost two games on the weekend, both to Swordfish.
A very deep HS B division featured 33 teams battling in seven different pools. The Revolution Blue team made it’s way to the Championship game to knock off the Barracudas 7-2. Revolution was 3-0 in pool play and got past the Sandsharks 5-2 and Stealth LC 14-1 to make it to the final. Barracudas were also undefeated in pool play before beating Stampede LC 12-8 and Revolution Red 8-7 in the playoffs. Defensively, Terrel Seabrooks was a key player for Revolution in the tournament. Attackmen Michael Dean and Blake Erdmann as well as middies Bobby Killian, Christian Cropp and Will Nicklaus were all guys who had very solid tournaments for Revolution.
Fourteen teams were entered in the HS A division including a new club comprised of players and coaches from Hagerty, Seminole HS, and Oviedo HS called Orlando Empire. The new Empire
club went 4-0 in pool play scoring 49 goals and allowing only 11. LCO Black was also undefeated in pool play scoring 30 and allowing 11. Stampede LC and West Florida LC were also undefeated in pool play but allowed more goals. The Championship game was played after a hard rain and the field was wet and sloppy, but it didn’t slow down the Empire offense who put up ten on their way to a 10-6 victory. Key to the Championship was the offensive play of Rylan Kortus (Oviedo) and Heath Rivers (Seminole HS) and the solid goal tending of Bronson Reano (Hagerty HS) who took home the championship medal on his 18th birthday.
We’ll most likely see many of these same teams at the Wellington Soccer Complex this weekend for the Palm Beach Blast. You can enjoy lots of photos from the Summer Faceoff on our Facebook page.
