It’s Official – Jupiter To Host FHSAA Lax Championships in 2016 & 2017

Against the backdrop of the field where the event will take place the FHSAA made it official and announced the 2016 and 2017 Boy’s and Girl’s lacrosse championships will be coming to Jupiter Community High School. The entire Jupiter community came together to apply and be approved for the event and many of the key players were there as participants for the event: Dr. Roger Dearing, the Executive Director of the FHSAA, George Linley of the Palm Beach County Sports Commission and Todd Wodraska, Councilor of the Town of Jupiter were joined by Ernie Cox of the Jupiter Community HS Booster Club, Jupiter Principal Dan Frank, AD Mike DeLeonardo and others for the press conference.  The Florida Launch’s Michael Zeff also was present as the Launch have shown the desire to help out the local lacrosse community wherever they can.  Jeff Marshall, President at Velocity Community Federal Credit Union also was in attendance and has a history of supporting the sport locally. A common theme of the press conference was the desire of the FHSAA to hold this championship in an area that they consider the center of the sport’s growth in the state and how impressed they were with the sense of community that Jupiter had put forth in it’s bid.   Podcast partner Wells Dusenbury produced this segment for WPTV NBC5:     There were 6 requests for RFPs to host the event and eventually four bids, including one from IMG to continue hosting the event. I asked Dr. Dearing what the lesson of the last two years was for hosting the event and his response was to highlight the weather . . . As Executive Director I would say that was the diplomatic answer.  True to an extent, but not the whole story.  Clearly attendance the last two years was a major factor and that wasn’t only because of weather.  Let’s just say attendance will certainly be well above the last two years and that will be beneficial to all parties. No matter what the reason, this area now gets to show it’s lacrosse mojo and something tells me that the FHSAA won’t be disappointed.
