Milne Field on Friday. The Dolphins fell behind early as the Golden Eagles used a ball-hawking offense to get out to a 3-0 first period lead. JU got rolling with 12:43 to play in the half when junior Austin Collins (Las Vegas, Nev.) scored on an unassisted goal and a bit more than two minutes later the Dolphins were within one when Fernando Milanes (Weston, Fla.) scored on an assist from Rob Moore (West Islip, N.Y.). The teams traded scores and senior Conor Igoe (Columbus, Oh.) got the Dolphins back within one at 4-3 with an assist from Dakota Rohlin. After a pair of Marquette goals, JU got back to within 6-5 at the half as junior Tom Moore (West Islip, N.Y.) scored and that was followed by an electrifying goal by Rob Moore at the buzzer. The Dolphins scored three times in the third, two by Tom Moore (who also had three assists) and one by Rohlin to tie at 8 heading into the final period. “It’s nice scoring a few goals but the goal is to win the game and it’s pretty upsetting when we don’t get that done,” Tom Moore said. “This is a team that just fights. There’s not a doubt in anybody’s mind on this team that we can’t go into every game and win. It’s such a close group of guys it’s great to play on a team like this.” The Golden Eagles (6-0) started the final quarter with three goals in the first 6:05, but JU fought back again as Quint Miller (Lancaster, Pa.) and Rohlin each found the net to get to within one at 12-11 with 3:48 to play. Marquette’s Ryan McNamara ended the scoring at the 3:06 mark. “We dug a hole for ourselves that’s really tough to get out of against a team like that who plays so hard,” JU coach Guy Van Arsdale said. “The impressive thing about our kids is we dug holes a couple of times but we fought back each and every time and we never, ever rolled over but we couldn’t quite get over the edge because the hole we dug was one shovelful too deep.” Van Arsdale said heading into the game he was concerned about quick turnaround from Tuesday’s game against Michigan. “We’re not used to doing that and it’s something we’re going to have to learn how to do better because we turnaround and play again on Wednesday,” he said. “We need to come out with better energy and a better get-after-it in the early part of the game.” The Dolphins play host to Robert Morris Wednesday at 1 p.m.
