Jensen Beach Over Vero Beach for District 19

If District 19 was a family it would be classified as “Dysfunctional.”  Nobody has been able to agree who is in charge all season. We can’t call this game an upset because Jensen Beach had already handed Vero Beach a loss earlier in the season.  Jensen Beach then turned around and lost to St. Ed’s and they had previously lost to Martin County.  But Martin County lost to South Fork and St. Ed’s.  St. Ed’s lost to Vero and it seems to go on and on. And they all won some good out of District games. Martin County beat a good Wellington team.  St. Ed’s beat Pope, Vero Beach beat District 23 Champion Boca (who beat JB) and Jupiter. Kyle VanWagner scored 3 goals to lead Jensen Beach.   Jared Welsh added a goal and 2 assists.  Beau Ladwig and Ryan Gallaher each scored once in the victory.  For Vero Beach, Zach Funk and Benet O’Brien scored 2 goals each. Ryan Overholt scored 1 goal and Winton Roschach had 2 assists. So, it turns out that this is what high school lacrosse is all about.  Good student athletes playing great games.  Not one team in this district has a big edge over all the others.  These guys had to show up at every game ready to play or they lost. Period.  And out of this mayhem rises Jensen Beach.  Champion of the craziest district in the state. They play Benjamin in the next round.  That is a perfect set up.  Benjamin was 1-3 at one point this season and was being written off.  They finished on a seven game win streak that included two wins over Jupiter.  A team that spent much of the season on the FAB 50 National Rankings. Two teams from two districts that nobody could pick all season.  I’m not going to try to pick this one.
