JACKSONVILLE, Fla.  –Eric Applegate dished out four assists, Mitchell Parker had a hat trick, and Shawn Ewert totaled four points, but Jacksonville University (0-9, 0-3) dropped to Furman University (4-6, 3-0), 15-9, Saturday at D.B. Milne Field First Quarter The Paladins drew first blood with a couple of scores before Applegate connected with Parker at the 6:03 mark. At 2:53, Applegate again was the helper on a pass to Dwayne Mattushik to knot the game at two. However, Furman rang in three-straight goals from Chase Hancock, Jon Vandenberg, and David Williamson. Second Quarter The same combination found Dolphin success at 11:44 as Applegate dished another assist to Parker. Furman came back with Stephen Wierzbicki goals at 10:49 and 8:26 before Applegate had his fourth assist on another Mattushik goal at 6:43. Williamson gave the visitors an 8-4 lead on his score with 2:34 remaining. Third Quarter Both defenses traded jabs until Parker completed the hat trick from a Ewert assist at 7:45. The Paladins responded nearly a minute later on a Graham Dabbs ringer. Ewert then put in his own goal on a pass from Brady Charles at the 4:07 mark to cut the lead to 9-6, and JU scored the final goal of the period with 44 seconds left after Charles caused a turnover at midfield, then found Ewert again for a one-on-one goal. Fourth Quarter Furman scored first at 12:53 on another Williamson laser shot, and a caused turnover resulted in a Wierzbicki goal at 10:51. Chad Kreuzer found the back of the net at 9:20 and Jonah Moore joined in at 8:33. Chase McIntyre halted the run on his goal at 7:53 remaining on a McLean Chicquen assist. After another Furman score, Ewert picked up a ground ball and dished it to Chicquen with 2:39 remaining for a man-up goal. Quote “Very disappointing loss today.
