JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville University men’s lacrosse team held a 20-8 advantage in face offs, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a 5-0 second quarter by Richmond in a 17-8 Dolphins loss on Saturday afternoon at D.B. Milne Field.
Jacksonville (4-3; 1-1 SoCon) had six different players score in the game led by Dakota Rohlin with two goals and an assist. Rob Moore added a goal and an assist while Tom Moore had two assists.
The Dolphins scored the first goal of the game less than three minutes into the contest with a Rohlin shot off Tom Moore’s 18th assist on the season. Richmond countered with three consecutive goals in a five minute span to take a 3-1 lead with five minutes still to play in the opening quarter.
Jacksonville responded with back-to-back goals from Fernando Milanes andChase McIntyre to even things up at 3-3 heading into the second quarter.
Richmond (5-3; 2-0 SoCon) then took control in the decisive second quarter and never looked back. The Spiders took advantage of two man-up opportunities as they jumped ahead to an 8-3 lead at the period after going on a 5-0 run in the quarter. Unfortunately, Jacksonville was never able to get into a flow offensively in the quarter attempting only three shots and committing five turnovers.
Two early goals in the third quarter by Richmond pushed the lead up to 10-3 before the Dolphins battled back finding the back of the net twice off goals from Austin Curtis and Rohlin. That would be as close as Jacksonville would be able to get the rest of the way however as the Dolphins were unable to slow down the Richmond attack despite winning 12 second half face offs.
Jacksonville added three goals in the fourth quarter to account for its final margin. Milanes secured his second goal of the game off an assist from Mitchell Parker. Quint Miller scored his eighth goal of the season, while Rob Moore added his fifth.
The Dolphins travel to Colorado as they face Air Force on Saturday March 28 at 4 p.m. EST. ###
