Jupiter Defeats Barron Collier 10-6 on Saturday

Jupiter took the bus ride south and west across Alligator Alley to play Barron Collier on Saturday March 21, 2015 in a matchup of two top ten teams. At the end it was Jupiter with the 10-6 victory after a great game of high school lacrosse.
Barron Collier opened the scoring with a goal by Jake Telitz assisted by Sean Nash, followed by Tad DeMallie’s goal assisted by Connor McGraw, for a 2-0 lead. Both defenses and goalies took over until Sean Denes scored for Jupiter. Sean Nash of Barron Collier responded with a goal on a feed from Beckett Haglund. Near the end of the quarter, Jupiter’s Jesse Foertmeyer scored with an assist from Michael Dean and then it was Jesse again with an assist by Alex Derrico. At the end of the first quarter, the game was tied 3-3.
The second quarter was almost all defense. Defensemen Connor Alexander, John Flanary, Connor Wallace and Goalie Viper Scheele for Jupiter and Defensemen Connor Nix, Jack Hunt, Jake Telitz and Goalie Zach Woods for Barron Collier kept the offenses in check until Pat Mahoney of Barron Collier scored with just over five minutes remaining in the half. Zach Crotty of Jupiter evened the score with an assist by Davis Yates and then Michael Nathan of Barron Collier scored unassisted to end the half at Barron Collier 5, Jupiter 4.
The third quarter was more defense, including great play from both team’s midfielders in addition to the defensemen and goalies, with no scores for nearly nine minutes. Michael Dean of Jupiter tied the game with the assist from Alex Derrico and shortly afterwards Zach Crotty scored again to end the half with Jupiter leading 6-5.
Jesse Foertmeyer opened Jupiter’s fourth quarter with his third goal, unassisted, followed by Davis Yates assisted by Zach Crotty. Zach Crotty widened the lead with his third goal of the day assisted by Peter Cox and then Peter Cox scored with an assist by Davis Yates, giving Jupiter a 10-5 lead. With 6 seconds to go, Drew Goodrich scored for Barron Collier, for a final score of Jupiter 10 – Barron Collier 6.
With the win, Jupiter’s record improves to 12-2, with a road game against Benjamin coming up on Wednesday March 25. Barron Collier’s record is now 8-3 with their next game away at Lely on Tuesday March 24.
