First Quarter It was a tight quarter until Duke pulled away with three late goals. Joey Manown scored the first goal of the day at the 12:04 mark for the Blue Devils but Jacksonville would answer on Eric Applegate‘s score with 6:39 remaining. Duke would break the tie with three more goals in the frame, including Brad Smith’s successful shot with under two seconds showing. Gleichenhaus had seven of his season-high 17 saves in the period. Second Quarter Each team found the back of the net twice in the quarter, with Duke scoring first on a Kevin Quigley goal at 12:02. Will Hendrick answered for JU on a Dwayne Mattushik assist at 5:33. Sean Lowrie added his second Blue Devil goal of the game with 1:56 remaining but Chase McIntyre rang in the half’s final goal just seven seconds later on an assist from Hunter Forbes. Third Quarter Jacksonville was held scoreless in the third period while Duke added tallies from Manown, Quigley, and Lowrie. Fourth Quarter Jacksonville had its most successful scoring in the game’s final frame when three Dolphins scored, the first being McLean Chicquen taking advantage of a man-up opportunity at 12:57 on a Brett Reilly assist. Applegate scored his second at 5:31 on an incredible no-look behind-the-shoulder shot coming off a loose ball. The final Dolphin goal came with only 49 seconds to go on a Doran Graham scoop-shot coming off a Reilly pass. Duke scored four more in the period to lead to a 13-6 final score. Quote “I promised the guys we would never be happy with a loss, but I was so proud to coach this team today. We were sloppy in the clearing game, sometimes stagnant on offense, and still a work in progress, but we fought like we hadn’t all year. The coaching staff and team found out what our identity is in the past nine days, and today we took a step in the right direction. All six games prepared us well for what is to come in SoCon play and we are fired up to begin that journey this Saturday.” – Head Coach John Galloway Scoops Jacksonville picked up 23 ground balls and Forbes won 14 faceoffs, while Duke brought in 34 ground balls and took nine faceoffs. The Dolphins went 12-19 in clear attempts, and the Blue Devils were 18-20. Forbes collected seven ground balls and Ryan Beville brought in three. Jacksonville returns home to open SoCon play Saturday, Mar. 18 at 11 a.m. vs. #19 Richmond.
