Milne Field. First Half The Seawolves sprinted to an early 3-0 lead within the first five minutes on goals by Samantha Disalvo, Dorrien Van Dyke, and Kylie Ohlmiller. The JU defense settled more but Stony Brook reeled off three more goals before Della Rocca scored with 8:15 remaining in the period on a Jaime Chapman assist. Van Dyke scored the half’s final goal at 4:42. Sydney Matthews had six saves in net. Second Half Della Rocca rang in her 200th career point at 27:12 on her second score, and Hannah Wilcox later added a goal at 26:05 on an assist by Ashtyn Hiron. The Seawolves would answer with five consecutive goals before Hiron jumped the net at 7:38 on a MacEllen McDonough assist. Abby Remenapp tapped in her first goal off a groundball pickup with 2:49 remaining. Quote “I’m proud of the hustle and fight the team showed. We played them similarly to nationally-ranked Northwestern which shows we are right around the corner from being in the top-20. Their defense kept them ahead of us and they knocked down tons of open feeds, so kudos to their defense. I think we played tough and gritty against them, and they were terrific with their on-point feeds and shots. We got caught ball watching a few times. I think we had a very even game but they made two key runs. We made some nice adjustments and overall I thought we did not play poorly – we just didn’t play better than they did tonight. I believe in this team. They have fight and speed and a never-die attitude and we are going to get a lot better after this game. That’s what playing tough teams does, it hardens your resolve and pushes your pace of play beyond what you can do at practice.” – Associate Head Coach Paul McCord Scoops Jacksonville picked up 24 ground balls while Stony Brook collected 22. The Dolphins had 25 turnovers to the Seawolves’ 26, and the visitors won 15 draw controls to the Dolphins’ five. Della Rocca had three ground balls and caused turnovers. Stony Brook went 18-28 on clears and JU was 17-20. Jacksonville completes its eight-game home stretch with a Mar. 18 contest vs. Wagner at 1:00 p.m. following the men’s lacrosse game vs. Richmond.
