JU Men: Dolphins fall to No. 3/5 Duke 18-5

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – No. 3/5 Duke scored four-straight goals in the second quarter and seven overall in the frame to pull away from Jacksonville for an 18-5 win Saturday at D.B. Milne Field. The Blue Devils improve to 6-0 all-time against the Dolphins.
After Case Mathies scored the first goal for Duke (3-1) a little more than a minute into the game, Aaron
Jollow answered for Jacksonville (2-2) 1:10 into the second quarter after picking up a ground ball and finding the back of the cage on a diving attempt.
The Blue Devils responded with four-straight goals to open up the contest, including three straight Matheis to Justin Guterding connections. Shawn Ewert found Dakota Rohlin with 5:11 left before the half cut the Dolphins’ deficit to four, but two additional Duke goals down the stretch made the difference six at intermission.
Duke’s Chad Cohan and Jacksonville’s Doran Graham traded goals to open the third quarter, but the Blue Devils put together a second four-goal surge before Fernando Milanes, with an assist by Eric Applegate, scored for the Green and White to close the period.
Case scored two of Duke’s first three goals in the fourth quarter before Ewert recorded his second assist of the match when Eric Applegate tickled the twine with 3:10 to go. The Blue Devils tacked on two more goals in the final 1:14.
Matheis finished with four goals and three assists. Guterding had a hat trick and three assists. Three different Blue Devils tallied two goals, while five scored one apiece.
Goalkeeper Danny Fowler (3-1) made six saves playing the first three quarters of the win.
Five different Jacksonville players scored one goal. Hunter Forbes had five ground balls.
Ryan Beville caused two turnovers.
Netminder Ben Gleichenhaus (2-2) recorded 13 saves and went the distance in defeat.
The Dolphins won 14-of-27 face offs.
Duke was 3-of-3 on man up opportunities, while Jacksonville was 3-of-5.
The Dolphins travel to UMass Lowell on Saturday, March 5. Face off is set for noon ET.
