WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – A gritty defensive start could not hold up as Jacksonville University (0-5) fell to Hartford (1-3), 15-3, Saturday at Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium. Dolphin Goalie Ben Gleichenhaus registered 16 saves.
First Quarter
Hartford scored just seven seconds into the game and would hold onto the lead for good on a Dylan Protesto shot. Justin Huggins added the second goal with 10:57 remaining in the quarter. Both defenses dueled until Huggins scored again at the 2:33 mark. McLean Chicquen took advantage of a man-up opportunity with the first Dolphin score. He was aided by Brett Reilly with only six seconds showing in the period.
Second Quarter

Huggins found success again for the Hawks with 8:32 remaining. Gleichenhaus brought in seven saves in the quarter, eight the half, and the Dolphins trailed 4-2 at intermission.
Third Quarter
Hartford ran away with seven goals in the quarter and held Jacksonville scoreless. Five different players scored including Huggins and Dylan Jinks had a hat trick.
Fourth Quarter
Dwayne Mattushik scored for the first time on a Will Hendrick assist with 10:25 to go in the game. Hartford though added four more scores and took the first-ever meeting between the programs.
Quote
“Today was definitely the most bizarre game of lacrosse I have ever been a part of. I thought our week of practice was focused, organized, and the team answered every challenge. Unfortunately, when the first whistle blew, we let it get away. We must be better as a coaching staff making sure our guys believe in the vision and the game plan. There are no excuses for what happened on the field today, and we will re-evaluate everything we do to find an answer.”
– Head Coach John Galloway

Jacksonville picked up 18 ground balls and won nine faceoffs, while Hartford brought in 27 ground balls and took 13 faceoffs. The Dolphins went 14-16 in clear attempts, and the Hawks were 18-20.
Jacksonville closes its four-game road swing with a Mar. 13 tilt at Duke. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
