JU Men: Parker, Ewert, Forbes Net Career Highs in Loss at UMass Lowell

via press release   LOWELL, Mass. – Jacksonville’s Mitchell Parker scored a career-high five goals Saturday, but UMass Lowell outscored the Dolphins 4-1 in the second quarter, leading to a 12-9 win at Cushing Field. Parker’s five goals are tied for second most in a game in school history. The mark had been reached five times previously, with the last occurrence coming from Chase Miller against Robert Morris on March 11, 2015. UMass Lowell (1-4) broke a 3-all tie at the end of 15 minutes of play by scoring four-straight goals in the second quarter, including back-to-back scores by Austin Lane. Shawn Ewert gave Jacksonville (2-3) a 1-0 lead in the first quarter before the Red Hawks answered with goals by Sam Klingsporn and Blaine McMahon. Parker’s first goal of the afternoon tied the affair midway through the period. Jacksonville’s Fernando Milanes and UMass Lowell’s Keenan Koswin traded goals in a 38-second span to close the scoring in the quarter. Cody Ford found the back of the cage with 3:06 left before halftime to trim the Dolphins’ deficit to 7-4 at the break. Parker’s second goal Saturday came less than four minutes into the third quarter, but an Eric Robbins score made the score 9-5 in favor of the Red Hawks with 15 minutes to play. The two teams alternated goals in the final period, and Parker tallied three of the Dolphins’ four scores in the frame. He opened the scoring at the 8:44 mark and tickled the twine again with 6:35 on the clock on a man up chance and with nine seconds remaining. Ford’s second goal came with 2:50 to go. Lane ended with a hat trick. Koswin, Robbins and Matthew Bolter each had two goals. Koswin and McMahon recorded two assists apiece. Ewert poured in a career-high four assists, tied for second most in a game in school history. The mark had been reached eight times previously, with the last occurrence coming from Tom Moore against Michigan on March 3, 2015. Milanes, Eric Applegate and Evan Tyler each netted an assist. Hunter Forbes picked up a career-high 12 ground balls, third most in a game in school history. Parker recorded five ground balls, while Milanes had four. UMass Lowell goalkeeper Grant Lardieri (1-4) made nine saves. Jacksonville netminder Ben Gleichenhaus (2-3) had 14 stops. The Dolphins won 20-of-25 face-offs and were 9-of-13 on clears.
