JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—Brittney Orashen and Holly Ventimiglia each scored their 100th career goal, as Jacksonville defeated Atlantic Sun foe Detroit 18-7 on Thursday afternoon at D.B. Milne Field.
“I think it’s really remarkable that Brittney and I were able to achieve such an amazing milestone in the same game,” said Ventimiglia. “Four years and five years (for Brittney) of hard work really paid off. I am so excited for the rest of the season and to see what the future holds for the team. “
“I think it’s really incredible to be able to work with someone as amazing as Holly and to be able to achieve this amazing accomplishment on the same day is just unbelievable,” said Orashen. “None of this would be possible without our entire team and all of the former players who we’ve worked with, to get us both to where we are today.”
The Dolphins were led by Sally Holbert with five goals, an assist and three ground balls. Orashen added four goals, an assist, six ground balls, and three draw controls while Ventimiglia notched her fifth hat trick on the season.
“Prior to the game, we really worked on moving around fast and looking for the slides in the defense”, said Holbert. “Four of my five goals were off an assist, so our practice with looking for the slides really paid off.”
The Dolphins started with a bang as they went on a 7-0 run in the first 12 minutes of play with Ventimiglia, Orashen and Holbert each scoring two goals in the run. Detroit closed the gap with back-to-back goals, but the Dolphins added two additional scores to end the half leading 9-2.
Following halftime, the Titans scored two more goals before Holbert’s third goal on the afternoon ended another comeback threat by Detroit. With the lead trimmed down to five and 20 minutes still left to play, Jacksonville stayed in control with a 4-0 run over the next three minutes, capped off by Orashen’s 100th career goal off an assist from Jess Worcester.
Jacksonville surrendered just two scores by Detroit the rest of the way as the Dolphins closed the game with a 3-0 run which included Ventimiglia’s 100th goal, off a free position shot.
Next up Jacksonville returns to D.B. Milne Field on Saturday, April 4 at 11 a.m against Furman. The game can been seen live on ESPN3.
