AMU Lacrosse Signs Orlando Native, Richelle Harris for Second Season
4/2/15
AVE MARIA, Fla. — Head Coach Kelly Buikus is happy to announce that Richelle Harris of Dr. Phillips High School has signed her letter of intent to study and play lacrosse at Ave Maria University. Harris has been a starter at Dr. Phillips for the past four years where she received the Captain’s award, as well as the Hustler award. 2014 was a record breaking year as Harris helped her team to a 14-5 overall record and a 2014 district title. Harris played her club lacrosse with Beast, based out of Orlando, Fla. as well as being a guest player for Scream Lacrosse club out of Los Angeles, Cal.
“Richelle will fill a huge role for us in the midfield in our second season. She is a finesse player with killer speed and amazing stick skills that will strengthen our transition. I’m very excited that Rich has signed with AMU”, said Buikus
Harris is a member of the National Honor Society, Medical Academy, National Beta Association, and Interact club.
Harris chose to attend Ave Maria University because she wanted to be part of a program where she could make an immediate impact, as well as being challenged every day in the classroom and the lacrosse field.
“I felt right at home at Ave Maria. The team and coach were very welcoming from the first time I stepped onto campus. I hope to gain leadership skills and most importantly gain a family with my new teammates”, states Harris.
Richelle would like to thank her parents for the support and mentorship, and Coach Kerry Watson for pushing her past her comfort zones to make her into the player she is now. Lastly, Richelle would like to thank her high school and club teammates for inspiring her to pursue her dream of becoming a collegiate lacrosse player.
