JU Women: Della Rocca New Dolphin Points Leader, Aus and McCord Each Achieve 100

via press release – photos via JU web site   WASHINGTON, D.C.  – Danielle Della Rocca scored four goals and surpassed Morgan Derner as Jacksonville University’s all-time leader with 218 career points. Rachel Aus scored a hat trick and added an assist to bring her career point total to 101 as the Dolphins (6-4, 3-0) stampeded over the Howard Bison (0-5, 0-3), 25-2, Sunday at Greene Stadium. The win was Head Coach Mindy McCord’s 100th at JU. First Half The Dolphins shut out the Bison in the first half while racking up 17 goals. Ten different Dolphins scored for Jacksonville, including a pair from Della Rocca, Jaime Chapman, MacEllen McDonough, Kasey Stevens, and a hat trick from Hannah Wilcox. In goal, Sydney Matthews (6-2) had two saves in 30 minutes while earning her fourth consecutive win. Second Half After scoring a goal and adding an assist in the opening half, Aus scored the first two goals of the half to cross the 100-point plateau. McDonough and Stevens each scored again to finish with hat tricks, while Parker Day and Katie Bolte shook the net. Della Rocca’s goal from a Chapman assist with 6:44 remaining moved her into first place all-time in JU history with 219 points. Mariah Cudlipp and Wilcox both spent time in goal during the second half, with Cudlipp picking up a save.     Quote “Great game today. We really executed our run-n-gun style of play. We have lots of players developing and getting better, along with great team spirit along away!”- JU Head Coach Mindy McCord Scoops Jacksonville outshot Howard, 45-6, and won 20 of 29 draw controls. The Dolphins picked up 21 ground balls to the Bison’s 13, and went 9-11 in clear attempts. Chapman and Courtney Valdez both shelled out four assists. Della Rocca, the ASUN Conference’s all-time leader in points and goals, is 21 goals away from tying Derner (2011-14) for the Dolphin record. McCord now owns 284 career collegiate victories across lacrosse and field hockey. Jacksonville has now won 27 consecutive ASUN games and returns home to battle Detroit Mercy on Apr. 7 at 7 pm.
