UT Women: #8 Royals Take the Crown 19-7

via press release – photo via UT web site   CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The University of Tampa women’s lacrosse team battled No.8 Queens University (N.C.) and fell 19-7 in a downpour.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

  • The Royals took a 5-0 lead early into the period.
  • At 14:49, Amanda Voges with an assist from Amanda Rom scored the first goal for Tampa.
  • The Royals answered back with two more goals to make it 7-1 over Tampa.
  • The Spartan duo, Voges and Rom score again for Tampa, Rom’s assist marks her 100th career point.
  • At 6:48, Maggie Gladden and Rom teamed up for bring the score to 7-3.
  • Rachel Crawford decreased the deficit to only three goals, converting a free position attempt to a goal.
  • Queens rallied back with two goals to take a 9-4 lead.
  • With six seconds left on the clock, Voges and Rom teamed up again for the final goal of the half.
2nd Half
  • The Royals scored the first goal of the half to make the score 10-5 over Tampa. 
  • At 24:18, Rom had an unassisted goal to bring the game within four goals.
  • Queens scored less than a minute later.
  • Allie Popelar and Claire Swanson teamed up to bring the score to 11-7.
  • The Royals scored eight unanswered goals.
  • Due to weather conditions, the game ended with eight minutes left of play, and a final score of 19-7.
INSIDE THE STATS:
  • Voges tallied three goals and one draw control.
  • Rom added four assists with one goal, two ground balls and one caused turnover.
  • Mackenzie Hackett had two saves and three ground balls.
  • Swanson led the team in draw controls with five. Also, tallied three caused turnovers, and two ground balls.
  • Gladden tallied a goal, ground ball and a caused turnover.
  BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Junior Rom reached 100 career points with 102 now. She is the second Spartan to reach this milestone.
