via press release   Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week Conor Whipple / University of Tampa / Sr. / Attack / Tampa, Florida Whipple has been named the Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after recording 11 points against RV Lynn. The Tampa native tallied four goals and dished out seven assists as the Spartans defeated the Fighting Knights, 18-7. Whipple also picked up a ground ball on the defensive side as UT improves to 9-3 overall and 2-0 in league play. The weekly award is Whipple’s 10th of his career. Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week Ty Wedekind / Rollins College / So. / Goalkeeper / Ellicott City, Maryland  Defensive Player of the Week, Wedekind, earned his first start of the season for Rollins and made it count. The Ellicott City, Maryland native helped the Tars hold No. 19 Saint Leo to just one goal in each quarter as Rollins upset their SSC rivals by a final score of 6-4 on Saturday evening. Wedekind made nine saves on the day, including five in the first quarter, to help Rollins cage the Lions, who rank third in Division II in scoring offense. Wedekind’s nine saves and five ground balls mark a career high in both categories. Rollins is now 6-5 overall and 1-1 in SSC play. Men’s Lacrosse Specialist of the Week Sam Watts / University of Tampa / Jr. / Faceoff /  Buffalo, New York Watts is named Specialist of the Week for the fourth time this season, second consecutive after going 14-of-24 (.583) in the circle against RV Lynn. Watts also picked up five ground balls during the 18-7 victory over the Fighting Knights. The Buffalo, New York native is currently ranked No. 14 in the NCAA for face-off win percentage. Tampa is now 9-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play. ===== Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week Meghan O’Brien / Florida Southern College / Jr. / Attack / Rochester, New York O’Brien’s performance in an overtime victory against No. 10 Florida Tech earns her Offensive Player of the Week honors. The Rochester, New York product netted three goals in the first half and one in the second half, helping FSC earn the Top-10 victory. The performance marks her 11th straight game with multiple goals. Florida Southern is now 13-2 overall and 2-0 in SSC Play. Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week Taylor Gillis / Florida Southern College / Sr. / Goalkeeper / Bel Air, Maryland Gillis receives her second Defensive Player of the Week award as she made 17 saves on 34 shots against No. 10 Florida Tech this past week. Gillis also accounted for three ground balls and caused two turnovers as Florida Southern defeated Florida Tech 12-11 in overtime. With the play of Gillis, the Moccasins have extended their winning streak to 10 straight wins and are now 13-2 overall and 2-0 in SSC play.
