Milne Field First Half Jacksonville overcame a slow start and ended the half on an 11-0 scoring run to take a 12-4 lead after the opening 30 minutes. The Chippewas scored three goals before JU got on the board on a Genie Santarpio netter at 19:56. Jocelyne Lemay answered 46 seconds later for CMU’s last score of the half. In the run, Parker Day scored a hat trick, Lillie Miller and Rachel Aus scored and assisted, Ashtyn Hiron and Danielle Della Rocca scored twice, and MacEllen McDonough, and Olivia Alvarez each goaled. Second Half Hiron, Della Rocca, and Aus continued the scoring run before CMU’s Tyra Prince halted the run at the 20:10 mark. Quote “First of all, I want to give credit to Central Michigan, who had a tough loss Friday night but came out and punched us in the nose to start out the game and came out fighting hard. Coach Mindy McCord used a timeout following the Chips’ fourth goal, and I want to give credit to our team for outscoring them 16-1 following the timeout. Whatever she said, they responded very well. It’s hard to hold a team to one goal for 40 minutes. Our whole team played defense as a team and had 15 players cause 23 turnovers. That’s terrific, and on offense, we had three players with hat tricks. Hiron is coming into a rhythm, Emily Barton had key caused turnovers, and Miller is playing outstanding defense. Also, 12 goals off the bench is an amazing response from our players.” – JU Associate Head Coach Paul McCord Scoops Jacksonville outshot Central Michigan, 46-13, and won 15 of 24 draw controls. The Dolphins picked up 33 ground balls to the Chippewas’ 22, and went 17-18 in clear attempts while holding the visitors to 10-24. Central Michigan committed 29 turnovers while Jacksonville had 14. Miller led the team with five ground balls, and Hiron took home six draw controls. Sydney Matthews advanced to 8-2 with the win and four saves and Mariah Cudlipp had one save. Della Rocca, the ASUN Conference’s all-time leader in points and goals, is 14 goals away from tying Morgan Derner (2011-14) for the Dolphin record. She, Hiron, and Day all finished with a hat trick and an assist. Jacksonville has now won 29 consecutive ASUN games continues a four-game home stand with a conference contest vs. Mercer on Thursday, Apr. 13.
