Milne Field. First Half Cudlipp started in goal and made nine saves in the period. The Dolphins raced out to a 5-0 lead with goals from MacEllen McDonough from Rachel Aus, Courtney Valdez from Danielle Della Rocca, Amelia Pedwell from Lillie Miller, Aus, and Hiron all within the first 11 minutes. UMASS was held scoreless until the 17:01 mark on a Cassidy Doster shot that opened the Minutewomen scoring. Hiron’s free position score at 7:09 was the final JU goal, and UMASS beat the buzzer on a Callie Santos shot to conclude the half with a 6-5 Jacksonville lead. Second Half The second half scoring started when JU’s Miller converted a beautiful unassisted shot into the back of the net at 27:05. After a pair of Minutewomen scores, Hiron and Pedwell both scored unassisted within the 20-minute mark. UMASS would tie the game at nine with 15:11 remaining before Aus drilled in a shot at 14:17. The Minuetwomen then scored twice to grab the lead at 11-10 with 11:58 remaining on a Santos free position shot. Hiron scored her fourth goal at 10:50 on the clock to knot the game once more, but the Minuetwomen grabbed the lead for good with goals from Hannah Murphy and Holly Turner. Hiron’s fifth goal came off a free position at 3:20 to cut the Dolphin deficit to 13-12. Kaitlyn Cerasi’s insurance goal at 1:18 proved costly for the hosts as a last-second goal by Courtney Valdez wasn’t enough in the 14-13 loss to UMASS. Quote “Every dynamic is different each game and I think we have now experienced that in the first two games of the year that we have to keep momentum with the lead and play smart with your possessions. This game we needed to limit our fouls and turnovers. The team is working hard and these are great games to learn from. I give credit to Hannah Murphy of UMASS, she played great at the draw and carried their team. I was really happy with Ashtyn’s play. She was a dominant player and Cudlipp’s 14 saves was top-notch.” – JU Head Coach Mindy McCord. Scoops The Dolphins went 17-18 in clears, won 11 draw controls, and had 14 turnovers. They were outshot by UMASS, 32-24, and had 14 ground balls to the Minutewomen’s 19. Jacksonville continues its eight-game home stretch with a Feb. 27 matchup against the #3 Florida Gators. First draw is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
