Lake Brantley High School (5–0) faced Boone High School (3-0) at Brantley’s home field Friday night. These two perennial power houses gave the fans exciting lacrosse on this cool and breezy night. Lake Brantley started the first quarter with a strong offensive attack with a myriad of shots from all points around the crease. The shots were mixed between skilled three pass drop-ins and step down dodges with high velocity power shots. Boone answered back with its own high heat from far outside the crease ending the first quarter 7-4 Brantley.
Second quarter adjustments by Boone slowed down the Brantley attack with the end of the second quarter bringing some momentum to Boone’s attack with two goals while Brantley was man down. At the end of the half, the score was 8-6 Brantley.
The second half brought Brantley’s adjustments to counter Boone’s momentum. Brantley took control of the ball and kept it. This added with Brantley’s solid defense up and down the field held Boone to only two additional goals in the second half. Brantley’s ten man defense allowed their attack to continue striking from all angles. This combination extended their lead by outscoring Boone 9-2 in the second half. This finished the game 17-8 with the Brantley win.
Brantley’s next game is a Seminole Athletic Conference game at Seminole High School in Sanford. Boone’s Kyle Irwin led his team with 4 goals and 1 assist with high powered shots from outside the crease. Lake Brantley’s Jared Bernhard demonstrated his five star recruit rating with 4 goals and 6 assists. Tim Gehlbach’s power was seen with 4 goals and 2 assist followed with Ryan Crowley and Austin Guerrina having 3 goals each.
