The 2 – 0 Lake Brantley Patriots visited the 1 – 1 Bishop Moore Hornet’s home Friday night. Bishop Moore provided an excellent venue for playing and watching lacrosse on their new turf field. Lake Brantley’s Joey Dobrowolski recorded 23 saves
Moore ran a strong defense anchored by Goalie Max Kucera who had 11 saves by the end of the game. In the first quarter, the game was evenly matched up with the Hornet’s defense holding the Patriots to a 4 – 2 lead. In the second quarter the Patriots began to extend their lead with scores from midfielders and attack that ended with the Patriots ahead 7 – 4.
The third quarter brought new life for the Hornets when they started to come on strong winning face offs and controlling the ball. The Hornet’s run was extended by a one minute non-releasable penalty on Brantley during which Bishop Moore scored two unanswered points leaving the third quarter 10 – 6 with the Hornets gaining momentum.
Jared Bernhardt scored twice and had one assist
In the fourth quarter, Brantley made some adjustments and stepped on the gas. Hiram Carter won 9 straight face offs in the fourth giving control to Brantley’s attack and adding a goal himself. Brantley’s midfielders and attackmen placed the ball in the net five more times for a final score of 16 – 9 Brantley.
Matthew Mottern led the Hornet’s with 3 Goals and 1 Assist, Charlie Moran added in with 1 Goal and 2 Assist. The Patriots leading scorers were Tim Gehlbach with 4 Goals, Ryan Crowley with 3 Goals and 1 Assist and Jared Bernhardt with 2 Goals and 1 Assist. Joey Dobrowolski, Brantley’s goalie, stopped 23 of the Hornet’s shots on goal. The Patriots’ next game is Monday night March 3rd, a home game for the Patriots against West Orange High School.
