Lake Highland Defeats Lake Brantley 15-9

Apr. 11th – Lake Highland (13-5; 4-0 District 11) rode a wave of balanced scoring, face-off winss and stellar goal-tending to upend the visiting Lake Brantley Patriots 15-9 Thursday evening in front of a full house and Brighthouse TV audience. The Highlanders never trailed and jumped to a 5-1 lead two minutes into the second quarter. But the Patriots, led by Midfielder Tim Gelbach and Attackman Jared Bernhart, closed the gap to one at 5-4 with 2:30 left in the half. That was the closest Lake Brantley would come for the rest of the evening as LHP scored 8 of the game’s next 10 goals starting with two momentum swinging goals by senior Midfielder Ryan Johnson and junior Midfielder Will Wolfson before the intermission. Lake Highland was led in goal scoring by Wolfson (3G, 1A), senior Midfielder Devon Lewis (3G, 1A) and senior Attackman Clay Phillips (3G). Senior Attackman Billy Roll recorded a goal and five assists and Johnson had two goals and three helpers. Junior Goalie Adam Sawicki recorded 20 saves and was outstanding all evening while Junior Max Parker continued to dominate the face-off wars, winning 21 of 27 draws. Gelbach and Bernhart led Lake Brantley with a pair of hat tricks. Lake Highland next prepares to host the District 11 play-offs next week.
