Lake Mary’s boys lacrosse team opened the regular season in a big way Wednesday as the No.3 Rams handled No. 4 Hagerty 13-7 in a matchup of top-ranked Seminole County foes.  Lake Mary dominated possession in the first half but held just a 9-6 lead with 10 minutes left in the game when Zac Gussman and Kurt Sisco added goals less than a minute later to give the Rams control the rest of the way. Sisco and Gussman each finished with four goals and an assist in the win. Josh Marmetschke scored three times and Garrett Gile added two goals and an assist. Lake Mary controlled possession for much of the opening half as they built a 5-0 lead with less than three minutes to play before the break. But the Rams were forced to play a man-down from there after being called for an illegal body check at midfield that nearly changed momentum. Hagerty capitalized with back-to-back goals by Jacob Collins inside the final minute to cut into the deficit. It was the first sign of life for the Huskies after allowing Lake Mary to dictate the flow of the game up to that point. Collins and Kyle Haley each finished with two goals for Hagerty. A goal by Marmetschke put Lake Mary in front 8-3 with less than five minutes left in the third before the Huskies scored goals once again while playing with a man-advantage. Chris Carpenter answered to make it a three-goal game when he went one-on-one with the Lake Mary goalkeeper for a goal. Chandler Harrison finished with 17 saves for the Rams, Lake Mary senior Chris Masten won 10 faceoffs on Wednesday for the Rams, who finished with a 14-7 advantage overall. The Rams face the top team in the Tampa area this Saturday in Jesuit High School.
