Lake Mary’s boy’s lacrosse team opened the regular season with a methodical but sometimes sloppy win Wednesday as the Rams handled Hagerty 15-5 in a matchup of Seminole County foes.
Lake Mary established control midway through the 2nd quarter by taking a 6-1 lead but struggled with some forced plays that reduced scoring opportunities throughout the first half. The Rams settled down in the 3rd quarter with a five goal run that put the game out of reach.
Nine different Rams scored in Lake Mary’s diversified offense with Senior attackman Zac Gussman (4,2), Junior Attack Alex Forehand (2,2) and Junior Middie Walker Mayes (2,0) leading the way. Kurt Sisco and Garret Gile were active on both ends of the field and produced a number of transition plays that result in goals. Both Sisco and Gile finished with one goal each. Sophomore Charlie Ragault and Senior Nick Medina also contributed goals. Lake Mary substituted liberally in the fourth quarter which allowed sophomores Kyle Sande and Taylor Ayres to continue the offensive production.
LSM Ben Carbone and close defender Zac Nash caused numerous turnovers in coordination with the entire long pole unit for Lake Mary.
Hagerty threatened at times with Granite Porcher scoring two goals and having several other one on one opportunities that were stopped by Lake Mary goalie Chandler Harrison. Harrison finished with nine saves and was relieved by Brandon Nash in the fourth quarter.
Lake Mary senior Kevin Sande won 10 faceoffs for the Rams, who finished with a 16-8 face off advantage overall.
The Rams face a very tough Tampa Jesuit team this Saturday in Lake Mary. Hagerty travels to Lake Brantley tomorrow night.
