thanks to Megan Danner of the Launch for providing the game preview   What: Game #13 Who: Florida Launch (4-8) at Denver Outlaws (5-7) When: Sunday, July 19 at 3 pm Where: Denver How: TV: www.espn3.com (Live)   Game-13-Notes-2A2A   Game #13 Preview The Florida Launch plays its final road game of the 2015 season when the team travels to Denver on Sunday, July 19 when they take on the Denver Outlaws. The Launch is currently riding a three-game win streak, while the Outlaws are winless in their previous three outings.   Launch vs. Outlaws Series The Denver Outlaws are one of two remaining teams that the Launch have yet to defeat since joining the MLL in 2014. The two sides faced each other in the Launch’s first ever game, losing at home to the Outlaws 14-10 despite a strong six-point game by Casey Powell to lead both sides. In the second leg of the 2014 series Kieran McArdle scored the opening three goals to put the Launch up early, but a strong second half by the Outlaws was too much for the Launch. In the 2015 installment, the Outlaws used an aggressive first half to go up 11-4 before a late Launch rally made it a three-point game but could not cut into the lead anymore and lost 15-12.   Game #12 Recap After routing the Charlotte Hounds 19-9 the previous week, the Florida Launch found themselves in a much closer contest now playing on the Hounds home turf. Neither side led by more than three, with the scored tied 10 times. The 60 minutes of regulation was not enough for the Launch to secure the win as the Hounds squeaked in the equalizer with nine seconds left, forcing overtime. In the second minute of overtime, Lyle Thompson ended the game and gave the Launch its first overtime victory in team history. L. Thompson paced the Launch with his second-consecutive eight-point outing, with six goals and two assists in the win. Miles Thompson and Kieran McArdle both chipped in five points in the game, with five goals for M. Thompson and three goals with two assists for McArdle.   Coach’s Corner

Stan-Ross-2012

Takeaway for Future: “The first thing I’m taking away from the second half of the season is that I wish we had a couple more weeks left. We finally have a full roster that is starting to come together on and off the field. We are looking to build off of this momentum for the remainder of the year and into the 2016 season. We have players on this roster that have really bright futures with us and in this league.” Surprises in Charlotte: “I think there were a lot of guys that played well in the second Charlotte game but I think the combination of the Thompson Brothers scoring 11 goals was a little bit of a surprise to me; especially after Lyle scored six goals the week before. I just didn’t expect him to have two huge back-to-back games for a total of 16 points.” Just Charlotte or Real Deal: “I am hoping we’re seeing the real Lyle Thompson. Charlotte changed their match up on him from the first game to the second and he still played very well; he had the same points tally in both games so that’s saying something. We will see what happens this weekend in Denver. I think this will be the big test going up against their defensive line and how he does.” Player of the Year Awards:  “I do think Kieran should be in the running for MVP and Offensive Player of the Year. He is number one in goals this year and number two in total points in the league. With those types of numbers he’s got to be in the running for the MVP and Offensive Player of the Year. You also have to consider he is only in his second year in the league and continued what he started in his record-breaking rookie season.”   Launch Together We’re Going Streaking!: The Florida Launch is riding a three-game win-streak heading into its final road contest, the longest current active streak in the MLL. Over the span of the streak, the Launch has scored 52 goals, the most of any team in the league during the three weeks. How Sweep It Is: With the victory over the Charlotte Hounds last week, the Launch completed its first series sweep in franchise history. Lyle Thompson was named Coca-Cola Player of the Game and Warrior Offensive Player of the Week after both games, recording eight points in each win over the Hounds. Doubling Down: After winning its first road game of the season in Charlotte, the Launch now looks for a season-record second road win as it travels to Denver. The Launch has yet to beat the Outlaws, losing in the previous three outings.   Noteworthy Players   #2 Miles Thompson (A) – Miles Thompson tallied his best game yet this season with a total of five goals off only seven shots. Thompson joined the Launch in late May and has played in six games thus far for the Launch. M. Thompson has tallied at least one point in all but one game including three multi-goal games.

#6 Kieran McArdle (A) – The MLL’s goal scoring leader is close to cementing his place as one of the premier scorers in the league. With 39 goals already this season, McArdle is now five goals away from 44, the record for most in a season. The Launch still has two games to play this season.

#14 Austin Kaut (G) – In his first two starts with the Launch, Austin Kaut has a goal against average of 12.87 and save percentage of .559. Over the past two games throughout the League, Kaut boasts the best GAA of the goalies who played all 60 in both games.

Austin Kaut

#65 Chris Mattes (FO) – After 24 games without recording a point, serving solely as a face-off specialist, Chris Mattes has an assist in each of the last games for two career points. Both of the assists came off of Mattes’ touches after he had successfully won the face-off.

Chris Mattes 2015 Faceoff Series

#74 Lyle Thompson (A) – Six games into his professional career and already Lyle Thompson is showing why he was worthy of being drafted number one in the 2015 Collegiate Draft. Coming off of his second-consecutive eight-point game, L. Thompson now sits in the top-25 of the league in points (20th), goals (23rd) and assists (13th). He also ranks tied for third in the league in game-winning goals with two.
