
Lynn Lacrosse Sets Program Record for Goals in a Game, Defeats Ohio Valley 20-11

BOCA RATON, Fla.- Lynn University’s lacrosse team improved to 3-1 on the season after a 20-11 victory over Ohio Valley (0-5) on Monday. The Fighting Knights surpassed their previous program-best of 17 for goals in a game while staying undefeated at Bobby Campbell Stadium. Austin Jerhoff, Johnny Gavin, Mark Snellman and Anthony Rainone all had hat tricks in the victory while Nick Nehring made six saved in goal earning his third win between the pipes.
Ohio Valley took a 1-0 lead when Nathan Hodgins scored on an assist by Branden Buck at 11:43 in the first quarter. The Fighting Knights answered back just under the 10-minute mark when Brian Kiel scored unassisted to even the scoreboard 1-1. Jacob Van Leenen assisted Rainone at 6:49 for Lynn to take its first lead of the game, 2-1. The Fighting Scots responded 13 seconds later on Hodgins’ second goal for a 2-2 contest. Austin Shircliff found Gavin at 3:30 for a 3-2 Fighting Knights lead, an advantage they would hold the remainder of the game.
Rainone logged his second goal at the 2:32 mark and Mike Formant scored his first career-goal with 54 seconds left the in period on an assist by Angelo-Beacon Paglia and Van Leenen had an unassisted goal with seconds left to give Lynn a 6-2 advantage after the first stanza.
Kyle Aylesworh scored seconds after the Fighting Scots won the opening faceoff of the second quarter on an assist by Caleb McCurtis to cut OVC’s deficit to three. The Blue & White would go on a scoring spree beginning at 11:30 when Sam Turner put the ball in the back of the net on an assist from Gavin. The Fighting Knights scored five goals in a minute and a half including back-to-back goals by Gavin four seconds apart for a 11-3 lead.
Amir Abdulah scored Ohio Valley’s fourth goal at 3:35 to break up the 5-0 Lynn run but Tyler Martin and Jerhoff would beat out the Scot’s defense in the final two minutes of the half for a 13-4 Blue & White lead.
Adam Dickson had an unassisted goal at 12:32 in the third period cutting Lynn’s lead to eight. Snellman, Tyler Briggs and Jerhoff all scored to give the Fighting Knights a 16-5 advantage. OVC scored four-straight goals carrying into the fourth quarter to make it a 16-9 ball game with 13 and a half minutes to play.
Snellman scored a pair of man-up goals in the fourth quarter while Brian Kiel had an unassisted goal at 11:40. Senior Brandon Rothstein notched his first career goal on an assist by Shircliff at 8:17. The Fighting Scots would add two more goals in the final three minutes of regulation for a 20-11 final.
Shircliff set a program-best five assists in the victory for five points while Jerhoff had six points on a hat trick and three apples. Vincent Genovesi went 19-24 at the faceoff and snagged a team-best 10 groundballs while his co-anchor Christopher D’Angelo won 6-of-11 faceoffs. Eleven members of the Fighting Knights squad scored goals in the victory, another program record, while eight different players recorded an assist. Nehring and Taylor Ferrino split time in goal each making three saves.
