MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Southern’s Caitlin Chase and Ashley Seborowski swept the Sunshine State Conference women’s lacrosse Player of the Week awards, announced on Monday by the conference office.
Chase, a senior attacker from Mt. Laurel, N.J., was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Seborowski, a redshirt freshman goalkeeper from Annapolis, Md., earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
An Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Second-Team All-American a year ago, Chase led the Moccasins with 23 points off 12 goals and 11 assists during FSC’s four-game week. She scored a hat trick against No. 16 Regis (Colo.) in Game 1 of the March 3 doubleheader and a season-high four goals in the nightcap against Wilmington (Del.). She added five points in the Mocs’ 11-8 win over Mount Olive in the early game on March 7. Chase had her best game of the season with six assists and nine points in Game 2 on Saturday against Wheeling Jesuit.
Seborowski entered the week with less than seven total minutes of playing time but finished with a 4-0 record. She turned in 180 minutes of solid goaltending with 32 combined saves and a 60.4 save percentage. She made eight saves, good for a 72.7 save percentage, in 0 minutes of playing time against Regis. Seborowski then started the next three games, and played all 60 minutes against both Wilmington and Mount Olive. Against the Trojans, she made a season-high 10 saves. Seborowski added five more saves in the first 30 minutes between the pipes versus Wheeling Jesuit.
The SSC is in its first season sponsoring women’s lacrosse in 2015. Chase and Seborowski join senior midfielder Megan Asper (Parkton, Md.) and junior defender Gabby Barowski (Alexandria, Va.) as conference weekly award winners from Florida Southern.
The seventh-ranked Moccasins (6-1, 0-0 SSC) will look to extend their five-game win streak on Tuesday, March 10 at 4 p.m. when they host No. 14 Queens (N.C.) (4-2, 0-0 Conference Carolinas) at Bryant Stadium.
