Women’s Lacrosse Faces Lehigh in Midweek Game
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The Jacksonville University women’s lacrosse team continues its second four-game home stand as they look to nab their sixth win of the season on Tuesday as they face Lehigh at 3 p.m., at D.B. Milne Field. ESPN3 will have live coverage of the game with Josh Jackson and Jess Vossler on the call.
“Another challenging opponent is visiting us and our improvement will be tested and shaped by Lehigh,” said head coach Mindy McCord. “They have a top-20 defense, a strong tradition of success and are 2-goals away from being 3-1 right now.”
In the Dolphins last outing, they downed La Salle 16-7. Offensively, Holly Ventimiglia led the team with four goals and six points. Sam Bauer and Asia Moore led the team defensively, with Bauer garnering five of the 17 draw controls and Moore grabbing 10 saves on 23 shots.
“I love how the team responded to LaSalle, an Atlantic-10 team we had never played,” said coach McCord. “This is another challenge. Lehigh is a good Patriot League team we have never played. They have a different style of play. They have some talented players and are well coached. It’s a great game to watch on ESPN3 because you will get a chance to watch lacrosse in good weather between two strong programs.”
Lehigh enters the game with a 2-2 overall record. The Mountain Hawks were scheduled to play Bucknell on Friday, but due to inclement the game was postponed. In their last outing, Lehigh dropped a 5-4 decision to Fairfield.
This is the inaugural meeting between these two teams, though it is not the first time the Dolphins have met a Patriot League opponent. Dolphins have only faced one other Patriot League team. In the 2013 season, Jacksonville traveled to then-No. 14 Navy and fell 13-12 double overtime.
In its next outing, Jacksonville is scheduled to face Stony Brook on Sunday, March 15 at 1 p.m., at D.B. Milne Field.
