thanks to Olivia Coiro, Assistant Director of Athletic Communication – Lynn University for this press release   BOCA RATON, Fla.- It’s more than just a game, it’s a chance to reach the Sunshine State Conference Tournament for the first time in school history. Lynn University’s lacrosse team will host Saint Leo on Saturday, April 18, at 7 pm as both teams battle for a spot in the SSC Tournament which takes place April 24-26. If Lynn wins, the Fighting Knights claim the #4 seed in the tournament eliminating Florida Southern and Saint Leo. If the Lions win, they will eliminate Rollins and Lynn. Both teams enter Saturday night’s game with a 1-3 SSC record and an identical 7-6 overall mark. Lynn won its first SSC game in program history on March 21 when Anthony Rainone scored with seven seconds left in regulation to top Florida Southern, 11-10. The Fighting Knights are still in search of their first SSC win at home with one chance left this season. Lynn started 2015 on a 7-2 run but its four-game win streak was halted on March 28 in a 16-4 loss to No. 11 Mount Olive. The Fighting Knights have lost their last four games, three of which have been to nationally ranked opponents. SLU defeated Rollins, 12-9, for its lone SSC win of the season. Lynn fell to Rollins at home on April 8th in a heartbreaking 10-9 loss in which the Fighting Knights erased a 7-1 deficit. Lynn’s duo of Rainone and Austin Jerhoff has paced the Fighting Knights this season. Rainone became the first player to record 50 points in a season with his goal and assist against Rollins, bringing his season totals to 39 goals and 11 assists. He began the season with 10-consecutive hat tricks shattering Tampa’s Conor Whipple’s previous mark of six for the Sunshine State Conference record. Jerhoff is not far off Rainone’s coat tails with 47 points this season. He has scored 30 goals and dished out a team-high 17 assists as a redshirt-freshman. He has logged 10 multi-goal games this season and twice scored four goals in a game. His seven points, four goals and three assists, against MIT is tied for second in program history as that same game, sophomore Johnny Gavin tallied three goals and four apples. Gavin is third on the team in points with 39. Having started in all 13 games this season, the Laguna Beach, Calif., native has totaled 23 goals and 16 assists. Sophomore Vincent Genovesi is 125-216 at the face off spot for the Blue & White winning 57.8 percent of his challenges at the X. Taylor Ferrino and Nick Nehring have split time in goal for the Fighting Knights allowing a combined average of 9.70 goals against. Last time the two teams met SLU defeated Lynn 11-0 on March 22, 2014 to lead the all-time series 1-0. Face off is set for 7 pm at Bobby Campbell Stadium following pregame Senior Day ceremonies.
