In a highly anticipated District 1 match-up, Maclay defeated Chiles 9-1 on a chilly Tallahassee night. After a slow start, Chiles drew first blood less than 2 minutes into the game with a goal from Andy Clarke, which subsequently was waived off due to an illegal stick. Maclay would score after the first penalty expired with Javier Masferrer cashing in on a nice assist from Stephen Chase (Notre Dame). Chiles would score their only goal of the night with 4:14 left in the first quarter with a Thomas Hanulak unassisted goal.
The first half of the second quarter remained scoreless with several turnovers and sloppy clears on both ends; Chiles goalie Ryan Kearney (Mars Hill) made three spectacular saves throughout the quarter, keeping the score at 1. Maclay would break through, however, with a backside goal by Jack Berg from Luke Langford, followed immediately by a man up goal from Teddy Transou (Duke). Lewis Langford finished tight on the crease after a great inside look from Garritt Schwarz, soon to be followed by a great transition shot from Teddy Transou just 12 seconds later.
With the score 5-1 at half, Maclay possessed the ball much of the second half with Chad Minter winning all but 4 faceoffs on the night. Maclay would pull away near the end, scoring 4 goals in less than 6 minute span in the late third and early fourth quarters. Eventually, Maclay would possess the final 3 minutes 30 seconds to kill the clock. Javier Masferrer (pictured) helped lead the way with 2 goals; Luke Langford lead the night with 2 goals and 3 assists, while Stephen Chase with 1 goal, 2 assists and Teddy Transou chipped in 2 goals as well. Transou, an LSM/D, brother of current offensive Duke midfielder Tripp Transou, continued his great shooting year, with 6 goals and 3 assists through 6 games this year.
Maclay advances to 4-2, and 3-0 in district 1 play, and scheduled to travel to Winter Park on Friday. Chiles drops to 4-1, 3-1 in district 1 play and scheduled to play Fleming Island on Thursday.
