Maclay School (13-2, #6), who plays only six home games all season, took it on the road again with an east coast swing to play Nease (11-3) and Bolles (7-6) this past weekend.  On Friday, Nease welcomed Maclay for an early afternoon match-up.  Maclay struck first with a goal by attackman Sam Chase off a rebound from a nice save by Nease goalie, Ian Areford.  After some nice ball movement, attack Kohl Minter came from X and scored the second Maclay goal unassisted.  Nease struck back quickly with a nice man up strike from Philip Mylet.  Maclay’s Chad Minter (Jacksonville) controlled the ensuing face-off, and scored quickly unassisted, and then followed it up with another goal 30 seconds later, with a sweeping shot that made it past the Nease goalie.  Reid Ragsdale finished the first quarter scoring for Maclay with a nice dodge and shoot for the score, putting them up 5-1 at the end of the 1st. In the 2nd quarter, Nease got the scoring going with a nice high shot by Richard Caserta.  After a timeout call, Maclay middie Lewis Langford (Colgate) found an empty net when he split two defenders and scored unassisted. Maclay took a 6-2 lead into halftime. In the 3rd quarter, after a nice save by Maclay goalie Austin Cook, Maclay played ball control until halfway through the quarter, when Chase scored his second of the day on a beautiful assist from X by Scott Ereckson.  After a nice ground ball and clear from Maclay defensemen Jimmy Wheeler, Maclay attack Garritt Schwarz took it to the goal for his first of the day, putting Maclay up 8-2.  Langford got on the board again with a sweeping left shot off an assist from Chad Minter that found the back of the net, putting Maclay up 9-2.  Nease’s Michael Cotter answered quickly from the outside,  making it 9-3. Minter found the goal again at the end of the 3rd for his 3rd goal of the game to make it 10-3. Maclay’s Langford found the net again in the 4th, followed up by a fast break goal by Nease’s Mylett to make it 11-4.  Nease’s Mylett finished the scoring for the game with one more, and Maclay played ball control for the final 5 minutes, winning 11-5.  Maclay’s Minter and Jared Pichard controlled the face-off match-up for much of the day. It was a quick turn-around for Maclay, as they traveled across town to take on Bolles the next morning.  After a half hour lightening delay, the two teams were ready to play on a soggy Saturday. The game started out as a defensive struggle, with some nice goaltending by both Maclay’s Austin Cook and Bolles Johnny Harris. The first quarter ended in a 0-0 stalemate. Maclay got the scoring going in the 2nd quarter when Schwarz found the back of the net on an assist from Ragsdale.  Chase scored his first of the day with a shot from the outside, again with an assist from Ragsdale. Soon after, Kohl Minter scored one with a 3rd assist from Ragsdale.  Schwarz finished the scoring in the first half with a dodge and shoot goal, and Maclay took a 4-0 lead into halftime. The second half was much of the same, good goaltending and solid team defense by Maclay led by d-poles Jimmy Wheeler, Trip Hunter, and Evan Oakley, LSM Bailey Cook, and defensive middie Scott Ereckson.  Schwarz got his 3rd of the day on a burning shot from the outside on a Maclay man up.  Bolles got its first goal of the day on a nice man up score by Anderson Gronvold at the crease with an assist by Gray King. The 4th quarter started with a Maclay goal by Chase and assist by Kohl Minter.  Maclay’s Chad Minter finished up the scoring with an outside shot to make the final Maclay 7, Bolles 1. Maclay gets a few days at home this week before it is back on the road next weekend for games at Fleming Island (Friday) and Bartram Trial (Saturday).
