Martin County Youth Lacrosse to Double in Size in 2017

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
The South Florida Youth Lacrosse League (SFYLL) has announced its latest expansion with the Treasure Coast Hurricanes becoming the newest members of the area’s only spring recreational travel league. The Treasure Coast Hurricanes, based in Jensen Beach, are an expansion of the same league in which the current Martin County league, The Martin County Pioneers play, founded in 2005. The Treasure Coast Hurricanes have been added to better serve Eastern Martin County and Port Saint Lucie. The expansion will field both boys and girls teams comprised of 6 to 15 year-olds playing in the U7, U9, U11, U13, and U15 age groups respectively. The SFYLL, and all of its member teams, are sanctioned by US Lacrosse – the governing body of the sport of lacrosse. “The Treasure Coast Hurricanes represent a fulfillment of not only the growing need for recreational sports in South Florida but stand to show just how quickly the game of lacrosse has grown,” US Lacrosse South Florida President Raul Rivero said. “When we can bring lacrosse closer to the families who want to play and make the game accessible to more children, we are always pleased to do so.” The need for a team like the Hurricanes is seen in the fact that lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the United States. Over ten thousand youth participants play lacrosse in South Florida and that number is consistently growing annually. For the unfamiliar, lacrosse is often referred to as “the fastest sport on two feet” for its blend of speed, intensity, and high energy. To celebrate the expansion, the Hurricanes first event will be a free lacrosse clinic in partnership with US Lacrosse South Florida at Jensen Beach Elementary School November 19, beginning at 3 p.m. All are welcome to just show up to this free event and no equipment or playing experience is required to attend.   us-lacrosse-clinic   About the SFYLL The South Florida Youth Lacrosse League is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
