What was your first lacrosse experience? And how long have you been playing?
My high school coaches would always visit middle schools in our area, and in seventh grade, my friend suggested that I play. She loaned me an old stick so I could practice in my backyard and I’ve been playing ever since!
What is your favorite lacrosse memory?
I’d say when we beat our school-rival Gainesville High, the emotions ran high, and we beat them in double OT with the stands packed.
How would you describe your style of play?
Fast-paced, explosive, and aggressive.
What do you think is the strongest part of your game? What are you working to improve?
My speed is definitely my greatest asset on the field. I’m working on being more disciplined on defense and placing my shots more effectively on offense.
What is important to you in selecting a college?
I want to find somewhere I will be genuinely happy and that can prepare me best for life after college. I’m looking for a balance of high academic standards, social expansion, and somewhere an overall good fit.
What do you think you will study in college?
Business Marketing, Engineering, or Architecture (for now).
Which college team or players do you most enjoy watching?
Duke
Who was your biggest lacrosse influence?
Sydney Steinberg, who is playing for UVA Wise next season!
What is your lacrosse goal for 2016?
Hopefully, to have a better idea of where I might play lacrosse at the collegiate level, and to also win our district.
How would you describe your high school team?
A very kind, humorous group of girls. We all have each other’s backs.
How would you like your teammates to describe you?
Hopefully funny, diligent, reliable.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Making my mom proud and being selected to play in the Under Amour Uncommitted game.
Do you have any pre-game rituals?
Eating Chicken Alfredo the night before, and singing (and dancing) to my playlist before warm-ups.
Would you rather ride the bench on a great team OR start for a mediocre team?
Ride the bench on a great team, and build my skills to contribute whatever I can when I can. (The same would probably go for a mediocre team)
What is the last thing you binge watched on Netflix?
My mom canceled Netflix L
Twitter or Instagram?
I go on both all the time so I’d think it’s a tie. (But my instagram’s @Thebrittanyyouknow– just throwing that out there.) Also, I’m making a miniseries on YouTube called “The Junkyard Dogs” about my club team and our tournaments this summer and this is the link! http://youtu.be/vpVHe5rrlkM
Brittany will look to continue to develop this spring as Buchholz attempts to improve on a 10-6 season with new district opponents. According to our current tentative district assignments, Buchholz will no longer be in Gulf Breeze’s district, who has eliminated them from the playoffs in the past two seasons. Maybe Brittany Young can help the Bobcats get past tough Oak Hall and Gainesville teams. Check out Brittany’s highlight tape below.
