Florida Lacrosse News is profiling some of our state’s top uncommitted talent.  Today we will feature Chandler Coons, a leading defender for Buchholz High School in Gainesville.

Position: Close defense/LSM

Height: 6’2

High School Team: Buchholz High

Club Team: Lacrosse Club Orlando

Lacrosse Honors: First team all area, team defensive mvp, varsity captain,  Under Armour South All America Team, Brine Florida National Team, Team Florida All Stars

What camps, clinics, or tournaments are on your schedule for the rest of the off-season?

Jake Reed’s Nike Blue Chip, Brine National Tournament, Under Armour All American Games, Battle of the Hotbeds

What was your first lacrosse experience? And how long have you been playing?

I picked up a stick at a lake we visited a lot when I was younger and I started throwing then.  Now, I have been playing 6 years.

What is your favorite lacrosse memory?

Beating Tampa Jesuit with 1 second left in the game.

How would you describe your style of play?

Patient yet aggressive.

What do you think is the strongest part of your game? What are you working to improve?

My strongest quality is my footwork and my speed.  I am working on using my checks more effectively.

What is important to you in selecting a college?

How it will prepare me for life after college.  Also I want to find a college that has strong academics, lacrosse, and a great social atmosphere.

What do you think you will study in college?

Business Management

Which college team or players do you most enjoy watching?

Brown University,  Larken Kemp.

Who was your biggest lacrosse influence?

My older brother.

What is your lacrosse goal for 2016?

To win Districts for the first time in my school’s history.

How would you describe your high school team?

We are all very close and we have a lot of potential to go far next year.

How would you like your teammates to describe you?

I hope that they would consider me hardworking, driven, and entertaining.  

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

Making my parents proud and making the Under Armour South Team.

Do you have any pre-game rituals?

Playing wallball in the school’s wrestling room and not shaving or getting haircuts during the season

Would you rather ride the bench on a great team OR start for a mediocre team?

I would rather ride the bench on a great team to become better and work my way into a starting position.

What is the last thing you binge watched on Netflix?

Arrow

Twitter, because it is more fast paced.
