No. 3 Tampa Hands Adams State Grizzly Defeat

TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 3 University of Tampa men’s lacrosse team faced off against the Adams State Grizzlies Friday night at the Naimoli Family Athletic Complex and emerged victorious in convincing fashion, winning by a score of 20-3. The Spartans attack was led fueled by Mike Morris, who notched six goals posting shots on goal percentage of 91.6. Serving as the catalyst for the offense was Conor Whipple, who set a new school record for assists in a single game and reached the century mark in assists for his career. Eight different players would find the back of the net including Andrew Kew (4), Jake Schmidt (2) as well as Jordan LeFrancKenny NelsonNick Page and Joey Lucchesi, who would each register their first goals of the campaign. Defensively, Tampa played with relentless intensity and tenacity as they forced 12 caused turnovers as a team and scooped up 47 groundballs on the night. Leading the charge on the defensive end was Rochester, N.Y. native Ryan Vella, who had four caused turnovers and hauled in four groundballs. Also stepping up for the defensive unit was freshman A.J. Ferraro, who had five groundballs and two caused turnovers in the contest. At the Faceoff X UT turned in a dominating effort with a faceoff win percentage of 88.4, thanks in part Alex Patton (9-9) and Tampa native Noah Menendez (9-11). In net Tampa played a rotation of keepers with A.J. Arnold picking up the win for the Spartans recording 30 minutes of action in net improving to 4-0 on the season. Arnold amassed three saves on four shots faced tallying a save percentage of 75.0.  Also seeing time between the pipes were T.J. Greenhill and Shane Giunta, who split the second half of action evenly at 15 minutes apiece. UT will return to action Friday, April 1 when the square off with rival Florida Southern at the Naimoli Family Athletic Complex.
