Oviedo Schedules August 3rd Golf Tournament to Help Coach In His Battle Against Cancer

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
The Oviedo, Florida lacrosse community is standing strong around their long-time coach, mentor, and friend, Rene Kortus. Rene is undergoing treatment for a third time in response to an aggressive form of pancreatic cancer. As the JV coach for the Oviedo Lions men’s lacrosse team and as a coach, organizer, and supporter of the Oviedo Pride youth teams, Rene has been a constant presence at practices and on the lacrosse field for years. His influence on the players and on his own children is profound as his deep care and concern for the boys stretches well beyond the lacrosse field. Lacrosse players and families have come to know Coach Rene as a true gentleman who pushes them to excel both on and off the field. The Oviedo lacrosse families are hosting a golf tournament on August 3, 2013 at Twin Rivers Golf Course in Oviedo to raise money for Rene’s family and awareness of the disease. Players, sponsors, prizes, and donations are needed to ensure that the tournament is a success! The shotgun start tournament begins at 9:00 a.m. and teams of four or single players are welcome ($75 per person). A number of hole sponsorships ($100) are available and donations of gift cards, gift baskets, prizes, or cash are welcome.
