WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. –– If you’re a Sailfish fan, you can breathe easier following the finish to Monday’s matinee between Palm Beach Atlantic (8-1) and Western Washington (1-5). Despite runs by both teams, the ‘Fish scored just enough in the fourth to get by with a 15-14 victory. The No. 18-ranked Vikings jumped out in front early, leading 2-0 before PBA’s extended run. Palm Beach Atlantic scored six straight goals on efforts from Dominic Scalzo, Joe Ciringione, Dave Schultz, and Dennis Koleda, making the score 6-2. Both teams traded goals twice before WWU went on a run of their own, scoring seven straight goals. In the midst of that Western Washington scoring run, PBA went scoreless for 26:04, finally scoring at 3:21 of the third from Bobby Hantske. On another miniature run, the Sailfish scored six of seven goals in the latter stages of the game to grab a 15-12 lead, which was enough to hold on for the victory. PLAYER OF THE GAME Senior Bobby Hantske finished with four goals and three assists against WWU, including the game winner at 2:39 of the fourth. All four of Hantske’s goals came in the second half, which helped PBA climb out of an 11-8 hole and grab the ranked victory. TURNING POINT OF THE GAME Hantske’s unassisted goal at 3:21 of the third stemmed a seven goal Vikings run and was the catalyst for another Sailfish run that eventually gave PBA the win. PLAY OF THE GAME At 3:50 of the fourth quarter, junior attackman Dominic Scalzo scored to give PBA a 14-12 lead, but it’s how he did it that’s got everybody talking. Dodging from behind the cage, Scalzo moved through six Vikings (three of which had multiple attempts), finally getting his hands free to score a bounce shot.
